RA Ford Ranger 2022-now

This is a range overview of the Australian RA Ford Ranger line-up at its 2022 launch.

The RA Ford Ranger launch line-up

The RA Ford Ranger landed in 2022, the second-generation based Ford’s T6 platform. Intriguingly, Ford co-developed the new Ranger with Volkswagen which runs its Amarok on the same platform. RA was the biggest update of the Ranger for a decade, ushering in all-new styling, new engine options and a longer wheelbase for more capacity.

Before the end of 2022, Ford announced a minor update for the RA Ranger known as MY2023.5, with price increases for all variants and specification and accessory additions for some.

When it went on sale in Australia in 2022, the RA included six specification levels:

  • XL
  • XLS
  • XLT
  • Sport
  • Wildtrak
  • Raptor

In addition to the specification levels, the company offered the following cab and body styles:

  • Single cab chassis
  • Super cab chassis
  • Super cab pick-up
  • Double cab cab chassis
  • Double cab pick-up

At the end of 2024, Ford announced the South African-built Ford Ranger PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle).

In March 2023 the Ranger Wildtrak X was announced as a permanent fixture in the Ranger line-up.

In April 2025, Ford unveiled a further permanent spec level, the RA Ford Ranger Super Duty.

The XL was available in Single cab chassis, Super Cab and Double Cab (also known as Dual Cab). Each cab type also featured a choice of Cab chassis or Pick-up, but the engine choice was restricted to the 2.0-litre single turbo and 2.0-litre bi-turbo.

Single turbo engines had the six-speed automatic and only available in rear-wheel drive (or 4×2) except for the most popular body style, the dual cab pick-up.

Stepping up to the XLS, Ford offered just the one body/cab combination, the bi-turbo diesel engine and the ten-speed transmission. Your choice was limited to whether you wanted 4×2 or 4×4.

Generosity of choice returns in the XLT trim level but only in Super Pick-up, dual cab/cab chassis and dual cab pickup. The 2.0-litre single turbo bows out and is replaced by the 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel.

RA Ford Ranger Sport

The Sport specification level ditches all but the dual-cab pick-up combination and is resolutely 4×4-only.

RA Ford Ranger Wildtrak

As we head to the giddy heights of the Wildtrak, the combination of cab and body styles remain the same as the Sport, as do the engine and transmission choices.

RA Ford Ranger Raptor

A smash-hit success for Ford around the world, the Raptor’s bi-turbo is old news. Available only in dual-cab pick-up, the Raptor features for the first time a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost petrol with a massive 292kW and 583Nm. That’s nearly 400 horsepower.

The second-generation Raptor puts even more distance between itself and the Wildtrak with the new engine and range of upgrades from the PX3 Raptor.
