The MY2023.5 Ford Ranger Platinum was a new entrant to the line-up, sitting above the Wildtrak but far more in tune with the Sport. With a ton of luxury features thrown at it, this one is all about the look.

The Ford Ranger Platinum is the sixth model in the MY2023.5 Ranger line-up and only available in dual cab pick-up. And with just one engine, the 3.0-litre V6, pricing was $76,990.
This is a story about the Australian-delivered MY2023.5 RA Ford Ranger Platinum released in November 2022. Production of MY2023.5 Ford Ranger Platinum started in April 2023.
Cab | Body style | Engine | Transmission | 4×4 |
Dual | Pick-up | 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel | 10-speed auto | $76,990 |
The Platinum comes in just one body style, the dual-cab pick-up and with the 3.0-litre V6 engine.
Platinum buyers would find the now-familiar Rotary Select Drive Mode and the Off-Road screen (ORS) integrated with the 360-degree camera.
For MY2023.5, the integrated brake controller formerly found in the became standard in the XLT and up, so the Platinum had it as well. The Platinum, along with Wildtrak X that arrived a little later debuted the new Flexible Rack System.

Interior additions included a wireless charging mat, fake leather seats with quilting and Premium embossing. Both front seats are heated and ventilated as well as power assisted and the steering wheel is also heated.

The 2022 Ford Ranger scored five ANCAP stars in 2022. This rating will expire in 2028 unless Ford re-tests the vehicle beforehand. The rating remains in place for the MY2023.5 update.
Ranger’s high score is due in part to the front centre airbag that helps prevent head clashes in a side impact for front passengers, which also explains the absence of a front bench-seat option.

Maximum towball download (kg) | 350 |
The Platinum is capable of towing up to 3500kg of braked mass. Ford specifies a maximum towball download of 350kg.
Keep in mind that whatever you load on the towball comes off your payload. Subtract the load on the towball from each model’s payload to ensure you stay within the legal gross vehicle mass.
Taking the Platinum’s 912kg payload and subtracting the towball download weight of 350kg leaves you with 562,
This means you will have to be careful loading the tray with cargo if you’re running a full cabin of people.
Also bear in mind that over 6400kg of gross combination mass is a of a lot of weight, so the standard integrated brake controller is a worthwhile inclusion. The 360-degree camera is also very useful when towing.
Trailer coverage is a part of the Ranger Platinum’s blind spot monitoring system. This detects you have a trailer and adjust its detection to include the extra length. This means an object travelling both beside the Ranger and the trailer will trigger an alert.
It works by punching in the dimensions of your trailer in a profile in the SYNC system. It will accept trailers up to 2.4 metres wide and 10 metres long to ensure safe operation when changing lanes.
You can also consult the checklist in the SYNC system and the trailer light check function can ensure all your trailer lights are working.

The Platinum was the first Ranger to be fitted with the Flexible Rack System as standard. This consists of a sliding load rack with five different positions over the bed. There are also folding roof racks that store inside the rails when not required. Ford says you need neither tools or help to operate either. This system is a hefty $2800 on other Rangers (Wildtrak X excepted).
The T6 platform grew for the RA, starting with a wheelbase stretch of 50mm, from 3220mm to 3270mm. Similarly, the track has increased by 50mm, now spreading out across 1620mm up from 1570mm.

While it’s not really aimed at hardcore off-roaders, the Platinum should acquit itself well, even if it is on all-season tyres.
The RA Ford Ranger Sport is fitted with a locking rear diff as standard and steel underbody protection is in place.
The Platinum features six driving modes, with Normal, Eco, Slippery and Tow/Haul joined by Sand and Mud/Ruts.
Ford says the drive modes adjust gearshift, throttle response, traction and stability controls, ABS “and more.”
The Tow/Haul mode made its debut on the RA Ranger, intended to optimise gear shift timing to maintain power while climbing and to provide engine braking on descent.
The Platinum retains the Off Road Screen which shows information about vehicle pitch and roll and the other for the driveline and electronic diff indication. Steering angle is also available.
With the Platinum’s 360-degree camera, the off-road screen offers the view from the front-mounted camera. This view offers extra visibility, particularly directly in front of the car as well as overlaid guidelines to assist with navigating around obstacles.
The Ford Ranger’s tub is reasonably sized, able to accommodate a Euro-sized pallete, which is a result of Ford’s collaboration with VW for the Amarok.
Access to the tub is via drop-down tailgate, which is (finally) damped (but only on the Platinum) so you won’t crack any kids’s skulls when you open it. The lift assist system remains.
Additionally, Ford has added a step or footplate to the lower side of the tub to allow step-up access to the load area. You can also check the depth of your load with a ruler imprinted on the side of the tub (as long as you don’t have a drop-in or spray-in bedliner).
The tub also features various lights, a 12-volt power outlet and partition slots and a drop-in bed liner.
